Thanks to my brother Deane Merrill's expert armchair genealogy using the Internet, we now know we are 4th cousins 4 times removed of the 14th president of the U.S., Franklin Pierce. In addition, we are also distantly related to three other former presidents, U.S. Grant, FDR, and George Bush. (P.S. Despite the fact president George W. Bush is my tenth cousin twice removed, I did not vote for him either time....)

Recently, it has been unearthed through my brother's research that we are 10th cousins of the late Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales.
